About

Winner of CAMRA's Pub Design Award for Conversion to Pub Use (originally an inn for more than 700 years, this property was entirely reconfigured from a pizza restaurant into a pub while keeping its historical character) this spacious city centre brewpub next to the historic Guildhall is one of the regions oldest pubs and was a favourite watering hole of Charles Dickens whose character in the Pickwick Papers 'The Fat Boy' was modeled on an employee of the pub. The brewery is on view in the center of the pub. Seven craft beers also feature as well as real, local ciders. There is a top floor open air terrace and big screen televisions are turned on for major sporting events. A comprehensive daytime food menu is available, nibbles and pizzas only in the evenings. Payment by card or App only. Accessibility access - Level access to the ground floor with a disabled toilet.
